About Fair Employment Project
The Fair Employment Project (FEP) is a nonprofit organization of attorneys, law students, and worker advocates dedicated to reducing violations of employment civil rights. FEP ensures that all workers, regardless of income, have access to fair treatment in the workplace and the legal guidance they need when their rights are at risk.
Since 2007, FEP has assisted more than 12,000 Massachusetts workers. FEP provides free information, personalized legal counseling, pro se assistance, and referrals to law firms, while partnering with other organizations to expand services and outreach. In 2024, FEP was honored with the American Bar Association’s Louis M. Brown Award for Legal Access in recognition of their impactful work.
Leveraging Volunteers for Maximum Impact
FEP relies heavily on pro bono volunteers to deliver legal services efficiently. With a lean budget, the organization trains and mentors students and lawyers in exchange for their time and talent. Most work is completed remotely, though local volunteers may attend some in-person events. Volunteers are onboarded and trained quickly, allowing them to assist with client intakes and other critical tasks immediately. This approach brings in volunteers from across the U.S., including individuals who speak multiple languages, and ensures that services are delivered efficiently.
Flexible Opportunities and Broad Impact
FEP structures pro bono work to accommodate a range of experience levels and schedules. Tasks can be completed remotely on a volunteer’s own schedule, making it easy for attorneys or students to contribute while gaining experience in areas of law that may be new to them.
